Poudre Canyon, Colorado

The Rustic RETREAT

The original structure, while weathered by time, still retained its mid-century charm, marked by impressive cedar beams and reclaimed plank ceilings brimming with history. We thoughtfully integrated new cedar to match the original and completely reimagined the two-story layout to maximize natural cross-breezes while showcasing the most striking viewpoints. Expansive picture-window walls blur the line between indoors and outdoors, creating a seamless transition. The color palette and choice of natural materials, such as white oak, reclaimed pine, and luxurious Carrara marble, are timeless and calming, resonating with the beauty of the surrounding landscape and creating a harmonious retreat from the fast-paced world beyond.

Located an hour west of Fort Collins, the remote property offers an escape off the beaten path. However, coordinating the project without on-site Wi-Fi or cell service, and in the face of extreme weather conditions, required meticulous planning and careful oversight. Standing on 64 acres, the vacation home enjoys a cascading waterfall and borders a crisp river lined with cottonwood trees. The landscaping curates native plants and grasses without the need for an irrigation system. State-of-the-art LED lighting, high-efficiency windows, and a comprehensive water filtration system enhance quality of life and conservation.

Halax designed custom cabinetry for the kitchen and primary bath in the metric system. The cabinetry was built in Finland from 100-year-old pine and refinished in Spain. The Doka-style resembles the Japanese burnt wood technique, shou sugi ban, nodding to the blackened trees that remain from the Cameron fire, which burned a large part of the Poudre Canyon area, forever changing the LOCAL landscape.

A Highlight of the new layout was the addition of more bedrooms and entertaining spaces for family and friends to gather where comfort, connection, and quiet luxury coexist.
